Why get your teeth whitened?

Having pearly white teeth can help people look and feel more confident. Your smile is one of the most important attributes for your physical appearance. And, as we age, it is not uncommon for people to develop dull and yellow teeth if left untreated. General age, as well as certain foods such as coffee and tea, red wine, and smoking,  can all be contributing factors to your teeth becoming stained.

While brushing your teeth can help reduce the incidence of teeth staining, having your teeth professional cleaned periodically is a much more effective way to ensure your teeth are looking their absolute best at all times.

Big Smiles are your local, trusted, and experienced dentist.  We help patients enhance their smile and improve your appearance with our safe and effective teeth whitening services.

Teeth whitening is an excellent option for patients before an important event or just part of a regular oral health care routine.

Why choose us for teeth whitening?

Big Smiles Dental are trusted and experienced cosmetic dentists, serving the local area of the Eastern Suburbs of Sydney for many years. We take great pride in our service, and each of our team members is dedicated to all of our patients’ complete oral health.

At Big Smiles Dental we use a professional take-home whitening kit.

This is done in a very quick and easy 15-minute appointment where we take impressions of your teeth, make a specially designed tray to fit over your teeth and provide you with the whitening solution that is placed in the tray.

You usually need to wear these trays for 30 minutes a day for 1 or 2 weeks, and the results can be remarkable.

Professional vs. over the counter teeth whitening

Many people first try the common over the counter solutions like whitening toothpaste, trays, or strips. However, these treatment options are not nearly as effective as the professional solutions we have available in our clinic. Once you have tried a professional solution, it is unlikely you will ever go back.

Store-bought solutions simply won’t be as strong as professional solutions. Also, if you purchase whitening trays over the counter, it is worth noting they are designed for the general public, not customised for your teeth specifically. Not only does this result in less effective results, but it can also mean the solution can leak and cause gum irritation.

This is why it is highly recommended to seek professional help when undertaking teeth whitening. A dentist can deliver more effective results – whiten teeth many more shades lighter than store-bought solutions – as well as providing a safe experience. Bottom line, in-clinic teeth whitening is a superior option.

Is teeth whitening right for me?

Teeth whitening is ideal for patients with light to moderate staining. Occasionally, stains are too dark for a teeth bleaching procedure to be effective. In these instances, Big Smiles offer alternative treatments such as veneers. Veneers are more appropriate for patients who may have other additional concerns to stained or yellow teeth.

However, Big Smiles Dental recommends patients have teeth whitening before some other cosmetic dental procedures. For example, if a patient is having veneers, crown, or a bridge, they are created to match the patients existing shade of surrounding teeth. If the surrounding teeth are yellow and stained, the newly constructed cosmetic restorations will be made in a similar shade. Conversely, if the surrounding teeth are white and brilliantly clean, then the restoration will match.
